National Tater Day

Happy National Tater Day! What’s a tater you ask? Well, according to my friends at Wikipedia, a tater is “a Southern United States and northern English slang term for a potato.” Potatoes are awesome! They can be enjoyed in many ways: mashed, fried, baked, boiled, scalloped, as part of a salad, or as a complimentary side to your favourite fast food meal!

For those of you celebrating Easter, I wish you a happiest of Easters!

National Hot Dog Day/National Take A Walk In The Park Day

Happy National Hot Dog Day!

Hot dogs are “sausage served in a sliced bun. It is often garnished with mustard, ketchup, onions, mayonnaise, relish, cheese, chili and/or sauerkraut.” The origins of the hot dog are unclear, stating anywhere from Germany to the US. They are usually made from meaty leftovers and fat, along with some spices and lots of sodium fro preservation.

In 2012, Capitol Dawg, in California, set the Guinness World Record for most expensive hot dog. This luxurious dog costs a mere $145.49 USD! Eat up!

Think hot dogs aren’t enough for today? Well, today is also National Take A Walk In the Park Day! It’s Easter Weekend. Gather the family, and get out and enjoy your local park! Play Frisbee, catch or tag! Take advantage of whatever green space is available in your neighbourhood!

National Mom and Pop Business Day

Happy National Mom and Pop Business Day! These awesome shops are usually the center of any small town community. Unfortunately, due to globalization and Walmart, these businesses are quickly becoming a thing of the past. How can they compete with big box stores that provide lower prices, despite the lack of actual knowledge of the products they sell? Plus, Mom and Pop pizza shops make the BEST pizza – something I no longer have the ability to enjoy. So, in honour of National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day, forego the Walmarts, the Pizza Huts, and the Targets and pay a visit to your local Mom and Pop shop!

Have your say! Click here to vote on today's poll.
