National Honesty Day

Happy National Honesty Day!

Honesty can be defined as “free from fraud or deception.” While I appreciate honesty, I have to wonder, is anyone really honest anymore? I mean, I think we try our best to be truthful and such, but at the end of the day, I think its more likely to have someone tell us what we want to hear, rather than what we need or should hear! Perhaps today we should all focus on being honest with ourselves, friends, family members, co-workers whoever! So here’s my nugget of honesty, I love writing and maintain this blog, but sometimes its too much work! It’s kind of become a job, for which I make zero dollars (and that’s perfectly okay!). I just feel bad sometimes when the posts are funny or detailed, or whatever, and for that, I'm sorry! Ahh….that feel better.

Since I’m being honest, I’ll share one more thing: the poll is one of my favourite parts of doing this blog, but not enough people participate! Please help a blogger out and vote on today’s poll by clicking here

National Zipper Day

Today is National Zipper Day!
Zippers are “a commonly used device for binding the edges of an opening of fabric or other flexible material, as on a garment or a bag.” They are used for “used in clothing, luggage and other bags, sporting goods, camping gear and other items.” It was in 1893 that Whitcomb Judson, a mechanical engineer from Chicago, invented the zipper. The name “zipper” was created in 1923 by the B. F. Goodrich Company. The components of a zipper, as indicated by Wikipedia and the image to follow, include:
·      Top tape extension
·      Top stop
·      Slider
·      Pull tab
·      Tape
·      Chain width
·      Bottom stop
·      Bottom tape extension
·      Single tape width
·      Insertion pin boll
·      Retainer box
·      Reinforcement film

National Blueberry Pie Day

Happy National Blueberry Pie Day!

Blueberry pie is a super delicious pie filled with (hopefully) loads of yummy blueberries! This type of pie was  “first eaten by early American settlers and remains a popular dessert in the United States and around the world.” Apparently it is also the official dessert of Maine. …I think I need to visit Maine!

Blueberry pie used to be one of my favourites…until the blueberry pie incident of 1991. You see, when I was first going to school, I wasn’t overly keen on the idea of having to part ways with my Mom for a few hours a day. So, I used to go home “sick” a lot, with what my mother affectionately describes as “Motheritis.” It’s a serious condition, which should not be tested – particularly on the infected’s birthday! So, I had blueberry pie for my birthday, and was feeling a little bit uneasy about being in school, away from my mom…and since she had caught on to my little plot to spend more time with her, she informed the school that unless I threw up or was bleeding, they weren’t allowed to call her to come get me. Well, on this particular occasion, I threw up! And, boy did I ever! All I remember is a very white, fluffy, snow-laced parking lot, covered in a lot of blueish-purple remnants of pie! I hope this little tale does not deter you from consuming such a delicious dessert today!

National Write An Old Friend Day

Today is National Write an Old Friend Day! I think this is an excellent day, particularly as the seasons are changing, the weather is warming, and summer is soon here! What better time to catch up with someone you haven’t had contact with in a while?! Aside from just the benefit of writing to an old friend, there is the added benefit of writing a letter, and knowing you friend will receive some non-money-demanding mail! So get your pen and paper ready, and write a distant friend to let them know you are thinking of them! As it is also National Tell A Story Day, if you find yourself having a hard time deciding what to say, you could always write them and tell them a story!

Who will you write a letter to today? Click here and vote on today’s poll!

It’s National Hug An Australian Day! Unfortunately, I don’t know any Australians, therefore I am sad to day, I will not be able hug one. I’m also not sure of the origins for this celebration. BUT, I do endorse hugging as many Australian’s as possible! So, get out there and hug some Aussies!
