Caramel Popcorn, or caramel corn, is basically popcorn that is wrapped in a delicious sugary, caramel blanket! The origins of caramel popcorn date back to approximately the 1890s, and are from, you guessed it, the US.  There is nothing better than the Mujjie’s homemade caramel corn! I’ve never had any luck making it on my own. Too bad she lives an hour away…I could really use some of that today…

Librarians are the staff members that work in the school libraries. Nowadays, librarians must hold some form of a degree or certification. Unfortunately, librarians are also becoming a thing of the past, as technology continues to take over real people jobs! So, be sure to show your appreciation for your school librarians today!

National Act Like A T-Rex Day

Yay! It’s my second favourite day of the year! Yep! That’s right. It’s National Act Like A T-Rex Day everybody!! T-Rex’s are awesome, and since I’m shaped like one, I think this is indirectly National Act Like Emily Day! There’s nothing better than seeing the reaction of passing cars to a ginger stompin’ down the sidewalk like a Tyrannosaurus! I challenge you to let go of any fears about what people might think of you, and release your inner king of the dinosaurs!

National Don’t Go To Work Unless It’s Fun Day

If you’re a university student, it’s probably what I like to refer to as “crunch time.” You’re feeling stressed. You’ve got last minute assignments, exams to study for, you’re not havin’ a time in the least. OR, you’re a “big kid” working full time in a job you either love most days, or hate all the time. You feel just as stressed. You might even be dreaming of taking a vacation somewhere, anywhere that isn’t where you currently are. Well folks, if you fall into either category, today is just for you. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you, National Don’t Go To Work Unless It’s Fun Day! Now, while I don’t recommend skipping classes or calling in sick just for the fin of it, sometimes you just have to take a mental health day. And, since it’s a “national holiday,” I don’t thin you’re actually doing anything wrong, so there is no reason for you to feel guilty! You’re welcome.

National PB and J Day

            Happy National PB and J Day!

PB and J sandwiches are “a sandwich, popular in North America, that includes a layer of peanut butter and either jam or jelly on bread, commonly between two slices, but sometimes eaten open-faced or with one slice folded over.” They first originated in the early 1900s, and were originally thought of as a delicacy!

Fun PB&J Fact: A study conducted in 2002 indicated that by the time a North American child finishes high school they would have consumed an average of 2500 of these delicious sammies! Oh doodle! That’s a lot of PB&J!

National Sourdough Bread Day

Its National Poop Challenge Day! Today is the day to weigh your movements in an effort to prove your pooping prowess (thanks Mandy for that alliteration inspiration!...ooh a rhyme…)! So get your scales at the ready, and be sure to brag to anyone you come in contact with! I know in my household, I’m the champion! What about you?

Just joking! Its April Fool’s Day, and today is really National Sourdough Bread Day!

           

Sourdough bread is “bread product made by a long fermentation of dough using naturally occurring lactobacilli and yeasts.” Its “sour” taste is brought on by the lactic acid produced by these lactobacilli.

The origins of sourdough are thought to go as far back as Ancient Egypt, approximately 1500 BC. It is also believed to be the first type of leavening agent available to bakers.
