National Power of A Smile Day/National Flip Flop Day

Well, if it isn’t National Power of A Smile Day! You know what makes me smile? Flip-flops. So, it makes sense that today would also be National Flip Flop Day!

Smiling is a wonderful thing! It is a simple action that can brighten anyone’s day. They are contagious! According to Wikipedia “Many biologists think the smile originated as a sign of fear. Primalogist Signe Preuschoft traces the smile back over 30 million years of evolution to a "fear grin" stemming from monkeys and apes who often used barely clenched teeth to portray to predators that they were harmless.” Ask.com even suggests that the act of smiling can burn about 3 calories! With that in mind, I must re-evaluate my exercise/weight-loss plan…because I smile a lot! For example:

Flip-flops on the other hand…not such a great weight loss tool. They are hard on your joints, and can be difficult to do any amount of exercise in. However, they are mighty comfortable! Flip-flops “are a type of open-toed sandal typically worn in casual situations, such as outside or at the beach. They consist of a flat sole held loosely on the foot by a Y-shaped strap that passes between the first and second toes and around either side of the foot.” It is believed that the origins of this type of sandal date back to Ancient Egypt, although the flip-flops we have grown to love today are actually of Japanese origin.

Fun Flip-Flop Fact (say that 10 times fast!): The name “flip-flop” was given because of the sound these summer-time favourites make when walked in!

Well, now that you’ve been educated on the wonders of both flip-flops and the power of a smile, it’s time to bug you about the daily poll! Click here to participate!
