National Sushi Day

Well my friends, the day is upon us…it’s NATIONAL SUSHI DAY!!!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately, the sushi joint I usually frequent is closed on Tuesday’s, so our celebration will have to be held on another day. Not cool, Sushi Fang! Anyway, let’s get back to business and talk sushi!

Sushi is “a Japanese food consisting of cooked vinegared rice combined with other ingredients, usually raw fish or other seafood.” It originated in Southeast Asia, but Hanaya Yohei created the sushi we know today sometime in the early 1800s. There are several different forms of sushi, such as:

·      Maki – a rolled style of sushi
·      Nigiri – an oblong mound of rice surrounded by nori with a desired topping placed on top
·      Chirashi – a bowl of sashimi (slices of raw meat served on its own) on a bed of rice
·      Nare – a fermented style of sushi
·      Inari – a tofu pouch

Even within each of the different types of sushi, there are countless combinations, making selecting which sushi to enjoy all the more difficult! Regardless, my next fill of sushi will be consumed in honour of today, with as much variety as possible. And, don’t worry, pictures will (hopefully) be provided!
