International Art Appreciation Day

Today marks International Art Appreciation Day. This I must say, is something I am happy to celebrate, as it is not a skill that I have (evidence can be found by referring to National Draw A Picture of A Bird Day)! I am always marveled by the ease some have with putting a vision in their mind onto paper or creating some incredible sculpture. My good friend, Kate, is the perfect example of this. Every time I go to visit her, she is working on some new project, and each one is equally amazing! Look, you don’t have to be rich or even educated to be able to celebrate or appreciate the work that goes into any given piece. Mind you, some famous “works” are far from inspirational, but they still play an important role in the art world. So why not today spend a few minutes browsing the web for past and current artists. Even better, check out a local-to-you artist. Find an art show or art gallery and go for visit! So many options!

Don’t forget to vote on the daily poll.

National Happiness Happens Day

Ever feel like life is getting you down? Maybe you’ve been having a series of bad days, and you’re thinking, “Something has to give…” Well, today’s holiday is here to remind you that it’s not always that bad! Happy National Happiness Happens Day!

If you look around you there are always sources of happiness, no matter how bad your situation. Yes, it can at times be difficult to find them…but they’re there! It can be something as simple as a flower, or a summery breeze, but it can also be a shared laugh between two friends, or falling in love. The range of things that can lead to one’s happiness is vast, which is why we need to celebrate it! So spend a few minutes today looking around. Take note of things that bring about happiness. What is it? Let us know!

Happiness can also come in the form of a daily poll. Click here to participate.

National Kids Day

Did you get enough childhood nostalgia from yesterday’s toe wiggling? Well, let’s hope you still have room for a bit more, because its National Kids Day!

Now, I’m gonna be straight with you here – I don’t’ overly enjoy kids…especially these days! No rules, no discipline, come on! How are we supposed to raise children to be decent humans with structure and common sense, when both of these things are evidently lacking in society? Babies are probably the worst though – they sleep, poop, eat and cry. You don’t know what they want. And most importantly, there is no mute or off button! But while motherhood may not be in my “Top Ten” of accomplishments for life, I must say that probably one of the most disappointing things about kids these days is that they’re, well, no longer kids! Think about it. In Western society, children are growing up way too fast. They’re being exposed to more sexual pressures, and constantly being told to grow up by media. Whatever happened to holding on to childhood for as long as possible? When did we become a society obsessed with adulthood, while being in a constant state of denial that we’re aging? It’s terrifying! Let kids be kids! Grab that sidewalk chalk and skipping rope! Explore the woods with nothing more than your imagination! Do you remember the days when a cardboard box would result in countless hours of entertainment? Come on! You could go from spaceship to race car driver to magician in seconds! Today I say stand up for childhood! Take sometime today to revisit the things you liked to do when you were at your most innocent stage. What will you do?

End unanticipated rant…

National Wiggle Your Toes Day

Get ready for endless fun…it’s National Wiggle Your Toes Day!

Wiggling your toes may not actually lead to any form of productivity, but it is pretty fun! Wiggling your toes can feel different depending on where you are or how you’re doing it! Have you ever buried you feet deep into the sand and they wiggled them to freedom? If you haven’t you’re missing out. BUT, if you have, you totally know what I’m talking about! This simple act (sand or not) provides us an opportunity to just be silly for a minute or two. So, take advantage of this holiday and celebrate by mastering your toe-wiggling abilities!

To get you into the festive mood, here's a little photographic motivation for why it's such a delightful activity!
