National Jumping for Jellybeans Day

Happy Happy Happy National Jumping for Jelly Beans Day!!!!! Wooooo! What a way to end this month – celebration to begin, and another to end. Well, I suppose we could say that about every month, but this one is extra celebratory! Err…is that even a word? See! I’m just too excited! Jumping for jellybeans is a good thing to, because by doing so, you’re pre-burning the calories you would be gaining by consuming them…and we all want to consume them. Don’t we? To learn more about jellybeans, check out National Jelly Bean Day

National Father-In-Law Day

Hmmmm…it’s National Father-In-Law-Day. I have no experience with this category, so I’m going to pass… or maybe just rant a little about how there are never really tales about evil father-in-laws. I mean, I’m certain they exist; they just don’t normally surface quite as much as the crazy mother-in-law ones do! I wonder why that is? Perhaps because men usually aren’t oversensitive, slightly-psychotic, stolen goods-feeling, crazy people?! I mean, let’s face it, I think what it comes down to, is that most mothers are overprotective of their child, and therefore only want what’s best for them. This often results in the mother believing that no one is good enough for them, and therefore doing everything in their power to break the couple up. Now that is something I have experience with! Man, I seem to date all the crazies’ children…hence why I’m now going to be a cat lady…and a crazy one at that. Hey! I’m sensing a theme here…

National Rocket Day

It’s National Rocket Day! This is an excellent day today, as I am taking off in a plane. I will now be imagining taking off in a rocket instead of being in a plane! But I digress…

So, rockets are pretty cool! A rocket is “a missile, spacecraft, aircraft or other vehicle that obtains thrust from a rocket engine.” The use of rockets for military and recreational use date as far back as 13th century China. However, after many scientific and industrial advances throughout the 20th century, these structures went from being fun back yard experiments to significant opportunities for space exploration, which if you reference National Space Day, is not something I enjoy thinking about. There are several types of rockets, but the chemical rocket is probably the most popular. It’s also quite dangerous!

Rockets are also one of the best candies EVER! Mind you, as a small child, I used to pretend they were drugs, which is worrisome, yet surprisingly was not indicative to a future of drug-dependence. Apparently I only like my drugs to be in dissolvable candy form! Interestingly, these delicious pills of sugary joy are only called Rockets in Canada. In the US they are called Smarties (still awesome, but not as awesome as Canadian Smarties…even though they are a Nestlé product!), and in England they are called Fizzers! Who knew!
Make sure you fill out today’s daily poll and help to solve the debate over which is better. You can weigh in by clicking here. And now, I leave you with everyone’s favourite “rocket” song:

World Hepatitis Day

Today is World Hepatitis Day. Not such a happy celebration…unless you don’t have it.

So what is hepatitis? Well, it is “a medical condition defined by the inflammation of the liver and characterized by the presence of inflammatory cells in the tissue of the organ.” Apparently there are six forms of hepatitis, but only (A, B, and C) “cause about 90 per cent of acute hepatitis cases in Canada.” There are a range of effects, with the worst being liver damage. There is also a range of symptoms, such as fever, nausea, and loss of appetite. There is nothing fun about this virus. In most cases, transmission is preventable, and there doesn’t seem to be any cure. Not really sure what I can add to that other than to be safe!

Today’s daily poll is a bit heavy. Weigh in by clicking here!

National Take Your Pants For A Walk Day

Today is National Take Your Pants For A Walk Day! This day has special meaning to me for something completely random and unrelated! My pal, Kel and I discussed a few months ago about wanting a puppy, and some how through a misunderstanding of someone’s pets name, we decided that the puppy we would get should be named “My Pants.” Now, this was strictly for humour purposes. For example, “I just took My Pants for a walk.” “My Pants got so excited, it peed on the floor.” “When I got home, My Pants greeted me at the door.” Or, “My Pants ate my slippers.” I could keep going with this, but I’m sure you’re not interested… Even if you don’t have a dog named “My Pants” I hope you are able to get out and take your pants for a walk…or shorts, or skirt, whatever. The point is just to get out and go for a walk, but with a much funnier title!

Before you take your pants for a walk, why not stretch by filling out today’s daily poll! Click here to do so!

PS It also happens to be National Bagpipe Appreciation Day. So…
