National Hot Mulled Cider Day

Happy National Hot Mulled Cider Day! While it may not be coffee, it is a close second! And speaking of second, by favourite mulled cider is Second Cup’s Cranberry cider!
Even Kelly's giving it the thumbs up!

Hot mulled cider is “the name used in the United States and parts of Canada for an unfiltered, unsweetened, non-alcoholic beverage.” Apparently, “the definition of mulling is “to pulverize,” or “to mix thoroughly.” When it comes to mulling beverages, what we’re really talking about is infusing spice flavours into a beverage of your choice by using heat over time.” These ciders can come in several flavours, such as apple, cranberry, or pear.

National Coffee Day

Mmmmm it’s National Coffee Day! And, anyone who knows me, knows I loves me some coffee! As much as I love to talk about my undying love of coffee, I have not had caffeine in several weeks, and therefore have zero energy to write this (sorry, Mom!)! Luckily, my good friends at Google have complied a bunch of really neat infographics on the history of coffee, so…

National Ask A Question Day

Finally! A holiday that will make me feel highly intelligent – it’s National Ask A Stupid Question Day!

I know they teach us from an early age that there is “no such thing as a stupid question,” or that there are “no stupid questions, only stupid answers,” but I think we can all agree this is nonsense! There are PLENTY of stupid questions, and today I’m on a mission to find them all! I think the stupidest question I’ve ever been asked was “how do you spell ‘a’?” That was a doozy!

But, now I’d like to know what you think are the stupidest questions! You can let us know by voting on the Daily Poll, leaving us a comment below, sending us a tweet (using #stupidquestion) or by commenting on our Facebook page! May the best stupidest question win*!

*Daily Tasty Nuggets will not be providing a prize for the best question, aside from the credit of having asked it.

National Good Neighbour Day

Today is National Good Neighbour Day! I think the purpose of today’s Day is pretty obvious…in order to celebrate it, you have to be a good neighbour. This is a fairly simple task to complete today. Whether it’s baking a thing of cookies to share, or offering to help with chores or yard work, there are endless possibilities for how you can celebrate this! And of course, you can’t have good neighbour day without the semi-creepy serenade of Mr. Rogers:

National Pancake Day

Apparently today is National Pancake Day… I’m not sure if I believe this, as I’m pretty sure this actually takes place sometime before Easter.

Anyway, pancakes are “a flat cake, often thin, flat, and round, prepared from a starch-based batter and cooked on a hot surface such as griddle or frying pan.” There are various ways to serve them, such as topped with fresh fruit or loaded with local maple syrup! If you wanna be really crazy when you get yer pancake on, you can have a McGriddle from McDonald’s! It’s basically a KFC Double Down, only with pancakes, and WAY more awesome. Plus, the pancakes have bits of maple syrup built into them! What I wouldn’t give to have one of those right now!

Anyway, no matter how you enjoy them, I hope you get to have some pancakes today! If you’re in Nova Scotia, why not pick up some Valley Flax pancake mix – it’s even Gluten Free!
