Human Rights Day

Aaaaannnnddddddddd back to the heavy-hitters! Today is National Human Rights Day.
Human rights are “basic rights and freedoms that all people are entitled to regardless of nationality, sex, national or ethnic origin, race, religion, language, or other status.” They include civil, political, social, cultural, and economic rights, which “are protected and upheld by international and national laws and treaties.”
The United Nations declared this to be Human Rights Day 20 years ago as a means to honour the implementation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Like many UN created Days, this one has a theme that changes each year. This year they are focusing on “Working for Your Rights” as the theme. The idea surrounding this is to put an “emphasis on the future and identifying the challenges that lie ahead.”
