National Kite Flying Day

It’s National Kite Flying Day!?! If ever there were an odd time to have a kite flying anything - it’s the middle of February! Sure, there’s a ton of wind, but we’re also anticipating a good 20-40 cm of snow in the next 48 hours. I know they say that you shouldn’t fly a kite during a thunderstorm, but I’m pretty sure that it’s not overly smart to do so in a snowstorm either!

Kites are thought to have originated in China, as many as 2800 years ago! They were originally used for multiple purposes, including signaling emergencies, testing the direction and strength of wind, and measuring distances. Today they are a source of entertainment for all ages. In fact, there are many cultural events surrounding kites all over the world!

So, for all you brave folks willing to brave the conditions to fly your kite, have fun and be safe! Why not send us pictures of your kite flying adventures!
