National Apple Pie Day

Mmmm apple pie! It’s a good thing today is National Apple Pie Day, because I love eating it, and there is always a good reason to do so!

Unlike the blueberry pie incident of my early childhood, apple pie goes down nicely, and with subtle bit of elegance! It is basically the same as blueberry pie, minus the blueberry and with loads of apple cinnamony goodness! Many varieties of apples can be used to make up the center of this pie, such as Empire (my favourite snacking apple), Northern Spy, and even Granny Smith (a personal favourite apple I used to terrorize a former co-worker who was, for some reason, afraid of them!). Really, any apple is a good apple, because we all know that the best part of any pie is the melt-in-your-mouth, flaky pastry that hugs all the fruit-filled innards!

Fun Apple Pie Fact: There is actually a town in New Mexico called “Pie Town” which was named in honour of this delicious dessert! (And here you thought I’d mention something about that 1999 film about a bunch of frisky teens!)
