Happy
National Dance Like A Chicken Day! Today is a super sweet day, and one that I
think everyone needs to celebrate! Below I will post a video of the “Chicken
Dance” song, so that you can all partake! In the meantime, why don’t I tell you
a little about the history of such a song!
The
Chicken Dance originated
from Switzerland in 1950, where it was originally called “The Duck Dance.”
There is some speculation that this song began as a drinking song, which is
plausible! It wasn’t until 1981 that after many name changes, the song became
known as “The Chicken Dance.” Today it is a party hit, being played at dances,
weddings, and many other social gatherings. It is popular with all ages, and is
a blast to do! Not sure of the steps? Luck for you, my friends at Wikipedia
have you covered:
·
At the start of the music, shape a chicken beak with your hands.
Open and close them four times, during the first four beats of the music.
·
Make chicken wings with your arms. Flap your wings four times,
during the next four beats of the music.
·
Make a chicken's tail feathers with your arms and hands. Wiggle
downwards during the next four beats of the music.
·
Clap four times during the next four beats of the music while rising
to your feet.
·
Repeat this process four times.
·
At the bridge, hold your arms straight, in imitation of an aeroplane.
All dancers spin around the room in "flight" until the bridge ends.
·
(Alternately: At the bridge, link arms with the nearest person, turn
right eight steps, switch arms and turn left eight steps, then repeat until the
bridge ends)
·
(Alternatively: Assume close position with partner and polka until
bridge ends.)
·
The dance repeats, progressively getting faster and faster, until
the music stops.
Now
that you’ve learned the steps, why not take a moment to fill out today’s poll.
You can do so by clicking here.
And,
now, I give you, the dance…
