National Eat A Cranberry Day

Yummy! Today is National Eat A Cranberry Day! For some you might find these delightful little berries to be too tart, but for me, I love snacking on them. In fact, my favourite way to eat them is fresh out of the freezer! But I digress…

Cranberries are a red berry that come from the cranberry bush. These little globes of acidic awesomeness come with several health benefits – perhaps the reason for today’s National day! Some of the health benefits include Vitamin C, and dietary fibre. However, they also serve as a natural treatment and prevention of urinary tract infections. Many people drink pure cranberry juice for this (the sugar injected commercial juices don’t count!), although there is conflicting evidence on whether or not cranberries are effective for this. Another health benefit to eating cranberries are the antioxidants found within them. Antioxidants are pretty popular lately, as they are associated with having cancer-fighting properties, while also aiding both the cardiovascular and immune systems.

So as you can see, there are plenty of benefits to having a cranberry or two. If you’re lucky enough to have some in your freezer pop a few in your mouth or add a couple to a glass of water instead of ice cubes! Help solve a cranberry conundrum by voting on the Daily Poll!
