World Television Day

Happy World Television Day for all you television fans out there!

A television is “a telecommunication medium for transmitting and receiving moving images that can be monochrome (black-and-white) or colored, with or without accompanying sound.” They are also sometimes referred to as a TV, or a television set depending on your age and the era you are from (ha!). Televisions were first introduced in the 1920s, and by the 1950s were a household staple. Today they are a large contributing factor to the spread of crappy media reports, terrible “reality” shows and the ever-growing rate of obesity.

While I will happily admit I enjoy the odd show or two, many, especially in North America, are, for lack of a better word, glued to their televisions. It’s used as a pastime, babysitter, and so much more.  I think television can add entertainment value to anyone’s life, but I don’t think it should be the sole entertainment in one’s life. Everything in moderation they say! But, you know what else they say? Vote on the Daily Poll!
