National Jelly Bean Day/Earth Day

Woohoo! Its National Jelly Bean Day!

Jelly beans are “a small bean-shaped type of confectionery with a hard candy shell and a gummy interior which come in a wide variety of flavors.” Turkish delight is actually the inspiration for these little sugary nuggets! Jelly beans first appeared in 1861, in the United States. Jelly beans are often associated with Easter today, but this didn’t become so until the 1930s.

It is also Earth Day, a day created to bringing environmental awareness. Earth Day began in 1970, headed by John McConnell and Gaylord Nelson. Today it is celebrated in over 192 countries around the world! For more information, check out any number of Earth Day sites!

Need a way to celebrate Earth Day? Why not show of some super sweet dance moves! As part of my Environmental and Sustainability Studies program banquet, a set of dance moves were created. We filmed a few of us bustin’ a move, and made a short video pleading for scholarship funding. Please help by spreading the video!
