Today is National Zipper Day!
Zippers are “a commonly used device for binding the edges of an opening of fabric
or other flexible material, as on a garment or a bag.” They are used for “used
in clothing, luggage and other bags, sporting goods, camping gear and other
items.” It was in 1893 that Whitcomb Judson, a mechanical engineer from
Chicago, invented the zipper. The name “zipper” was created in 1923 by the B.
