National Licorice Day

Happy National Licorice Day, everyone!

Licorice is a plant from the legume family. It originates in both Europe and parts of Asia. The name “licorice” originates from the Greek term for “sweet root.” It grows best in deep valleys and well-drained soils. It is harvested in the “autumn, two or three years after planting.” It is used in various foods, and as a natural herbal medicine.

Fun Licorice Fact: While they have similar flavors licorice is not related to anise, star anise, or fennel!
