So today is National Peach
Cobbler Day…which is strange since its not even peach season! Oh well, its
still pretty good!
According to me friends at Wikipedia, a cobbler is “fruit or savoury filling poured into a large baking dish and covered
with a batter, biscuit, or pie crust before being baked. Some cobbler recipes,
especially in the South, resemble a thick-crusted, deep-dish pie with both top
and bottom crust.” And, in this case, that “fruit or savoury filling” happens
to be PEACHES! Millions of peaches! …hey
that reminds me of a song, that I feel isn’t played quite enough (see below)!
Anyway, back
to the peach cobbler, er just straight up cobbler (or Cobbler à la Paula Abdul,
if you will). Cobbler originated from the British American colonies. The name “cobbler”
was given because after this delightful dessert has been baked, it resembles a cobblestone
street! There are many varieties of cobbler, but since today is celebrating
PEACH cobbler, I recommend a quick Google search to find any number of recipes
to try! Bon appetite!
