International Day Against Police Brutality/World Consumer Rights Day

Every once in a while I may sound a little preachy, and today is going to be one of those day. So, be forewarned I am about to rant about two pretty big issues, because it is both the International Day Against Police Brutality and World Consumer Rights Day!

In “celebration” of the International Day Against Police Brutality, let me just spend a quick few sentences on this… its no secret that incidents concerning police brutality continue to take place today. Why and how did this become an expectation of sorts? Why is it that I see an article weekly, and almost daily about a police officer that has been involved in some sort of violent act?! Does anyone else find this backwards? Aren’t these same individuals supposed to be in charge of ensuring our safety? So, why is this acceptable? Why do more often than not, these individuals get off with little more than a stern talking to? Better yet, what are we going to do to switch this “social norm,” whether we accept that this is what it is or not?

Since it is World Consumer Rights Day, I feel I have to tell you this video series. It is important to watch. Discuss. Share. Consumption is a big contributor to why we are in the mess we are in today, and part of that is due to the fact that we, as consumers, don’t always know or question what it actually is that we are buying! We need to look at what we’re buying, or better yet WHY we’re buying whatever it is we are. If we don’t question this, how will we ever realize the change our planet desperately needs?!?!

End rant.
