International Youth Day

Happy International Youth Day! A day to celebrate the youth of the world, or for us oldies, a day to remind ourselves that we’re no longer youthful!

Actually, it was in 1985 (a fantastic year, if I may say so myself…) that International Youth Day was declared by the United Nations. The goals of this initiative are to put together “a policy framework and guidelines for national action and international support to improve the situation of young people.” Like many UN designated days, International Youth Day has a different topic to focus on each year. For 2013, the theme is “Youth Migration: Moving Development Forward.” The purpose of this theme is to “raise awareness of the opportunities and risks associated with youth migration, share knowledge and information stemming from recent research and analysis on this topic, and engage young people in discussions on their migration experiences.”  Perhaps in the West, we don’t look at this as closely as we should. I will be interested to learn more about the outcomes of today’s theme!

Another interesting thing I look forward to learning is your view on today’s poll question! Click here to vote!
