National Kids Day

Did you get enough childhood nostalgia from yesterday’s toe wiggling? Well, let’s hope you still have room for a bit more, because its National Kids Day!

Now, I’m gonna be straight with you here – I don’t’ overly enjoy kids…especially these days! No rules, no discipline, come on! How are we supposed to raise children to be decent humans with structure and common sense, when both of these things are evidently lacking in society? Babies are probably the worst though – they sleep, poop, eat and cry. You don’t know what they want. And most importantly, there is no mute or off button! But while motherhood may not be in my “Top Ten” of accomplishments for life, I must say that probably one of the most disappointing things about kids these days is that they’re, well, no longer kids! Think about it. In Western society, children are growing up way too fast. They’re being exposed to more sexual pressures, and constantly being told to grow up by media. Whatever happened to holding on to childhood for as long as possible? When did we become a society obsessed with adulthood, while being in a constant state of denial that we’re aging? It’s terrifying! Let kids be kids! Grab that sidewalk chalk and skipping rope! Explore the woods with nothing more than your imagination! Do you remember the days when a cardboard box would result in countless hours of entertainment? Come on! You could go from spaceship to race car driver to magician in seconds! Today I say stand up for childhood! Take sometime today to revisit the things you liked to do when you were at your most innocent stage. What will you do?

End unanticipated rant…
