National Thrift Shop Day

Happy National Thrift Shop Day, everyone!

Thrift shop's are generally charity run stores that serve to raise funds for the organization. “They usually sell mainly used goods donated by members of the public, and are often staffed by volunteers.” The popularity of thrift shops has grown significantly in the past few years and there are several reasons for that. One dominant rationale is that purchasing second hand reduces the amount of goods manufactured, thus having a positive influence on the environment. Another is that people do not want to purchase items produced in sweatshops, so by selecting second-hand goods, an additional ethical thought-process is exercised. These motives are excellent reasons to support the “second-hand movement,” however for me, I just find crazy things at thrift store that I can’t typically buy elsewhere. And everyone knows, second-hand shops are the #1 go-to for ugly Christmas sweaters, and creative Halloween costumes.

Get thrifty and vote on today’s poll. And of course, we can’t talk about thrift shops without also posting this classy jam by Macklemore!
