A senior citizen implies that the person is retired. However, “when defined in an official context, senior citizen is often used for legal or policy-related reasons in determining who is eligible for certain benefits available to the age group.”

Fun Senior Citizen Fact: The term “senior citizen” was coined during a political campaign in 1938.

Now that we’ve determined who this demographic is, why not head on out into the world and find one today! When you do, give them a hug, or a high-five and maybe even sit with them for a while and listen to what they have to say. With age comes wisdom (…usually), and sadly, our senior citizens are often taken for granted. There are many stories to be shared and pieces of advice to be given. Seriously. Get out there. Show your appreciation for the generation that has created the lifestyle we are so fortunate to live in today. Many of have fought for our freedom. Many have educated us.
