Happy
International Mountain Day! Who doesn’t love the sight of mountains at any time
of day or the year? Oddly enough, International Mountain Day is none other than
a United Nations
declared day!
The purpose of today is to recognize the importance that
mountains play in our lives (aside from the aesthetic value), such as being
home to 12% of the human population, and their role in weather patterns.
However, perhaps most importantly, they are a great source of natural and fresh
potable water sources. This year’s theme is “Mountains: Key to a Sustainable
Future” which seeks to “identify new and sustainable opportunities that can bring
benefits to both highland and lowland communities and help to eradicate poverty
without contributing to the degradation of fragile mountain ecosystems.” While
this may be true, today also serves as an excellent means to finding a few
brief moments of tranquility and relaxation in this otherwise time of chaos and
busyness!
So, today, I urge you to take a minute or two, grab a coffee or tea
and just take in all that is mountains! Here are a few pictures of the
mountains I saw while in Alaska a few years ago!
And here's a few from North Carolina (just in case the snow makes you feel cold):
And why not a few from Vermont?
Now that you’re feeling
relaxed, why not vote on the Daily Poll? You can click here
to do so!
