National Video Games Day

Happy National Video Games Day to all my geeky followers!

A video game is “an electronic game that involves human interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device.” The first video game is believed to have been created in 1947, by Thomas T. Goldsmith Jr. and Estle Ray Mann. However, it wasn’t until the 1970s that the concept of video games as we know them today took off. Over the years several consoles have been placed on the market, as well as different styles of games, such as role-playing or first person shooter. There’s even educational and fitness based games.

Video games have received criticism, as they are thought to be one of the factors leading to childhood obesity. To me, that sounds like a bunch of parents not wanting to take responsibility for their children or their parenting skills. I can only imagine that having kids is a difficult job, but it seems like every day there is some new story about a parental unit blaming something other than their own actions for their child’s behavior. Video games can certainly lead to unhealthy lifestyles, which is why it is up to the parent to monitor a child’s use and to teach him or her the importance of balancing indoor and outdoor activities!

It also happens to be National Chocolate Milkshake Day, so here’s a little diddy for you! Don’t forget to vote on the daily poll
