National Skyscraper Day

Look up. Waaaayyyyyyyy up. It’s National Skyscraper Day! A skyscraper is “a tall, continuously habitable building of many storeys, usually designed for office and commercial use.” Apparently there is no specific guideline as to what height constitutes a building to be a skyscraper. The term “skyscraper” was coined in the late 1800s, as a structure of 10 storeys or more. It was during the 19th century that these buildings began to appear. Today many of the largest cities worldwide feature a skyscraper or two. Currently a 2010 built skyscraper in Dubai is the tallest structure in the world, with 160 floors! Imagine the view from there!

  1. The skyscraper establishes the block, the block creates the street, the street offers itself to man. See the link below for more info.
