National Drive Your Studebaker Day


Today is sure a dandy – it’s National Drive Your Studebaker Day! 

The Studebaker Corporation was “was a United States wagon and automobile manufacturer based in South Bend, Indiana,” which was founded in 1852. It was later incorporated in 1868, where its name was changed to the Studebaker Brothers Manufacturing Company. The company “entered the automotive business in 1902 with electric vehicles and in 1904 with gasoline vehicles.” These vehicles became quite popular throughout the early 1900s and especially during the pre-war era. Upon the conclusion of the war, the company began seeing financial troubles, after facing greater competition from Ford and General Motors. During the 1960s plants began closing, until the final cars were produced towards the end of that decade.
