National Daiquiri Day

Let’s hope for sunshine, because today is National Daiquiri Day!

Daiquiris are “a family of cocktails whose main ingredients are rum, citrus (typically lime juice), and sugar or other sweetener.” An American miner, working at a mine by the same name in Santiago, Cuba, apparently invented the drink. Originally served in a tall glass with cracked ice, the drink stayed within the region until 1909, when another American (a US Navy medical officer) introduced it to Army and Navy Club in Washington, D.C. However, it wasn’t until the 1940s that this beverage caught on to the mainstream. There are many variations, along with the option have it served frozen.

Before you sit back, relax, and enjoy a celebratory drink, vote on today’s daily poll!
