National Don't Step on a Bee Day/National Teddy Bear's Picnic Day

If you go down to the woods today, be sure you don’t step on a bee! Happy National Don’t Step on a Bee Day! You thought I was starting to “sing” the Teddy Bear’s Picnic,” didn’t you? Well, you’re right. I was. It’s also National Teddy Bear’s Picnic Day!

The Teddy Bear's Picnic is a famous children’s song. John Walter Bratton, an American composer, wrote the melody in 1907. At this time, the song was known as “The Teddy Bear Two-Step.” Later, in 1932, Irish songwriter Jimmy Kennedy added in the lyrics we know and love (well, maybe not love).

Fun Teddy Bear’s Picnic Fact: Did you know that the melody of this song was frequently featured as background music in several Looney Tunes cartoons?

Another Fun Teddy Bear’s Picnic Fact: BBC used the original 1932 recording of this song to “test and calibrate the frequency response of audio equipment.” This practice lasted until the 1960s!

Now, of course, we can’t talk about the song without a little musical interlude. So…here you go!
