National Different Coloured Eyes Day

Today marks National Different Coloured Eyes Day – a day to celebrate those of you who have two different eye colors!

The term for this colouration differentiation is Heterochromia iridum. This mutation is the result of unequal melatonin in the irises. It can either be an inherited trait, or a genetic mutation, the latter of which I find to be way more exciting! According to one study, the frequency of Heterochromia iridum is quite rare; about 0.67% of the population will have this condition! Pretty neat, if you ask me!

Now, let me ask you something…have you filled out the daily poll today? You can do so by clicking here!
